1. From: Custom House, Boston Collectors Office March 8, 1862
"Sir,
I hand you copy of letter from the Secretary asking for proposals to receive, and provide suitable lodgings, medicines and accomodations for sick Seamen entitled to relief at this Port.
If such provisions can be furnished by your Hospital the Collector will be pleased to receive a proposal from you. The average number of Patients at the Chelsea Hosptial for ten months past has been Sixty Three,

"Twenty Five Soldiers, most of them Mass. Volunteers, have been received during the quarter, and about thirty five, in all, during the year. They were placed upon free beds, in accordance with a vote of the Board of Trustees, tendering the beds to the Commonwealth, and with an understanding on the part of the Surgeon General, that application might be made to the Commonwealth at some future date, for payment of their board, if the Trustees should deem it proper to do so.
