Dr.Paul Dudley White studied medicine at Harvard Medical School , graduating in 1911, and interned at the newly established department of pediatrics at the Massachusetts General Hospital. After World War I, when he volunteered with the Harvard unit near Bologna, Italy, he returned to the MGH. In 1919, he established a new Cardiac Unit and became its first Chief. In 1948 he was elected President of the International Society of Cardiology, and he was subsequently appointed the President of the first World Congress of Cardiology. Also, in 1924, Dr. White helped to establish the American Heart Association, and he served as Executive Director of the National Advisory Heart Council.
In 1953, Dr. White was the recipient of the Lasker award (see Catalog #588).
